Trucking Employment Approaching Pre-Recession Heights

Trucking employment is returning to pre-recession heights.

Trucking hiring has steadily climbed throughout 2014 as the industry nears its pre-recession employment levels.

With approximately 1,408,700 employed in July 2014, trucking employment is at its highest point since January 2008 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The industry added roughly 2,300 new hires.

Trucking hiring has improved every month since September 2013. Continuing at its current pace, the industry should match its pre-recession peak of 1.45 million employed in January 2007 by the end of 2014.

Positions are most plentiful in California and Texas, though the highest paying opportunities are for drivers in Alaska and North Dakota.
